Domestic Violence Shelters

Programs that provide temporary emergency shelter for women who have experienced domestic violence/abuse, and for their children. Such facilities usually provide in-house individual, group and family counseling and the full range of secondary services related to domestic violence including referral to appropriate resources. Also included are similar facilities for battered men and those that can accommodate both men and women.

Domestic Violence - Emergency/ Transitional Shelter for Women and Children Advocates offers a 51 bed emergency and transitional shelter in a supportive environment in which women may begin to restore their lives and the lives of their children. Safe environment, food, clothing, support groups, counseling, parenting classes, life skills, and budgeting classes offered.
Stays range from three days to a year.

Emergency Shelter- Domestic Violence- Mountain Rose Safe House Tahoe SAFE Alliance provides safe shelter for women and child survivors of intimate partner violence or sexual assault in the Mt. Rose Safe House and provides emergency shelter to additional individuals in area hotels. Emergency Shelter can accommodate survivors for up to 60 days with a 6 bed capacity. Further accommodations can be arranged at local hotels. Emergency Shelter for Domestic Abuse Victims Emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children.   Washoe County  Emergency Shelter Committee to Aid Abused Women (CAAW)
Emergency Shelter/Women's Shelter/Domestic Violence/Crime Established in 1999, as a shelter for women and all minor children who are victims of crime. Each participant may stay up to thirty (30) days with a thirty day extension upon approval of the case manager or executive director. In addition to the emergency shelter, the participant will also receive life skills classes, financial planning, community referrals, domestic violence groups, self-esteem building classes, job readiness, nutrition and food preparation, parenting classes, substance abuse counseling and 24-hour crisis intervention.   Washoe County  A Safe Embrace Safe Embrace
Live Violence Free - El Dorado County Office - South Lake Tahoe Live Violence Free is committed to promoting a violence free community through education and advocacy to address domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and basic needs.

Services offered:
  • Emergency Domestic Violence Shelter for up to 90 days
  • Transitional housing for up to 18 months
  • Legal advice and/or representation for low-income survivors of violence
  • Advocacy and or accompaniment through legal and medical proceedings
  • 24 hour crisis hotline and crisis intervention counseling
  • Response team services with law enforcement, district attorney and hospital staff
  • Individual counseling for adults and children
  • Weekly support groups for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Child abuse prevention education in local area schools
  • 52 week Batterers' Intervention Program for both men and women
  • 80 hour crisis intervention certification course (required for all staff and volunteers)
  • Emergency clothing, food and transportation
  • Referrals to other social service providers and local government agencies


Live Violence Free is the only provider of domestic violence and sexual assault services from South Lake Tahoe west to Kyburz, CA, north to Placer County, CA and east to Douglas County, NV. - and is the only provider in all of Alpine County.

Nevada counties served: Washoe, Carson City and Douglas.
California counties served: Alpine, El Dorado and Placer.

Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission The Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission (RSGM) is Northern Nevada’s largest faith-based provider of services to the needy and homeless, with 150 warm, clean beds for men, women and children and more than 350,000 meals annually served.

RSGM offers one of Nevada’s largest addiction recovery programs, with 100 beds for men and women. The 13-month Christian Addiction Recovery and Education program (C.A.R.E.) is an intensive recovery program that focuses on the overall well-being of the client by addressing their spiritual, physical and emotional needs.

RSGM operates numerous facilities, including a mission; women’s shelter; emergency lodging for men, women and children; transitional/rental housing; a warehouse and five thrift stores. RSGM’s work extends beyond its door into numerous community outreaches and services: Community pantry for needy families; Special events such as Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for the community; Coat and blanket drives for the homeless; Annual “Random Acts of Kindness” events that bring food and grocery help to low-income neighborhoods.

Supportive Services- Domestic Violence, Counseling, Support Groups, Emergency Assistance Tahoe SAFE Alliance provides individual counseling, support groups, emergency assistance and other support services for both adult and child survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. All services are free of charge and provided in both English and Spanish.

All of our individual and peer counseling and support groups are designed to empower victims in reclaiming their rights and to provide the tools individuals and families need on the road to safety and recovery.
